Devices and Modules

ElectroBoard supports 29 types of modular devices, split into 7 groups. Each device has its own parameters, connection rules and visual representation (colour theme).

Device info tooltip

In the palette, next to each device name there is an icon. Hover over it (or tap on mobile) — a short reference appears: what the device is, what it is used for, and what each of its parameters means.

Compact form factor

Some manufacturers make 1-module variants of normally wider devices. In the connection panel there is a "Form factor" → "Compact" toggle for 14 types:

The toggle appears automatically when the current connection variant supports the compact form factor.

💡 Extended width: separately from the compact variants, a 1P+N RCBO supports a width of up to 4 modules (ETI KZS-2M 3.5–4M slim — Type B / 10 kA / 125 A). The width selector is in the properties panel → "Modules".


Protection

Devices that protect circuits from overload, short circuit, earth-leakage current and other fault conditions.

MCB — Miniature Circuit Breaker

The most common device in a panel. Protects a circuit from overload and short circuit.

  • Default rating: 16 A
  • Modules on the DIN rail: 1 (for 1P)
  • Characteristic (trip curve): B, C or D
    • B — for lighting and cable runs without high inrush currents
    • C — universal, suitable for most domestic loads (sockets, appliances)
    • D — for motors and equipment with high inrush currents
  • Breaking capacity: 3, 6 or 10 kA
  • Connection variants: 1P, 1P+N, 2P, 3P, 3P+N
  • Compact 1P+N: 1 module instead of 2 (Hager MLN, Schneider iDPN) — enable the checkbox in the parameters
  • 2P mode: for the 2P variant a "2P mode" toggle is available in the properties panel:
    • L + N — protection of both poles of a single-phase supply (typical for the residential sector)
    • L1 + L2 — two phases without neutral (a split-phase inverter/generator branch)
    • The default is chosen automatically: if an ancestor in the supply chain is a source of type inverter/generator/solar/battery without a neutral — L1+L2 is chosen, otherwise L+N
  • Can be a child — yes (connects to an RCD, isolator or another MCB)
  • Has an outgoing cable — yes

💡 The same "2P mode" rule applies to: the fuse, contactor, time relay and isolator. The changeover switch 1-0-2 has its own logic — in 2P mode it is always L+N.

RCCB (RCD) — Residual-Current Circuit Breaker

Protects against electric shock and fire caused by leakage. An RCD does not protect against short circuit — so it is usually installed after an MCB.

  • Default rating: 40 A
  • Modules: 2
  • RCD type: AC (standard), A (for electronics), B (for variable-frequency drives)
  • Tripping current: 10, 30, 100 or 300 mA
    • 30 mA — shock protection (for domestic circuits)
    • 10 mA — enhanced protection (bathroom)
    • 100–300 mA — fire protection (at the incomer)
  • Connection variants: 2P, 4P
  • Can be a parent — yes (group MCBs connect under it)
  • Has a "Test" button — yes

⚠️ Warning: an RCD must always be protected by an MCB upstream. The validation system warns you if an RCD has no short-circuit protection — the check walks the entire ancestor chain through non-protection devices (voltage relay, contactor, transfer switch); finding an MCB/RCBO/fuse at any level upstream is enough.

💡 Automatic N bar: the RCD, RCBO, ATS and changeover switch 1-0-2 get their own N bar automatically — when the first child moves to "via bar" neutral routing. As long as no child uses the bar, it is not created; when all children move back to "direct", the bar is removed. The first N child defaults to "direct", the second and later ones to "via bar".

RCBO — Residual-Current Breaker with Overcurrent Protection

A combined device: MCB + RCD in one housing. Protects both against overload/short circuit and against leakage.

  • Default rating: 16 A
  • Modules: 2 (standard). For 1P+N a width of up to 4 modules is available — ETI KZS-2M 3.5–4M slim (Type B / 10 kA / 125 A)
  • Compact 1P+N: 1 module (ETI KZS-1M) — via the "Compact" checkbox
  • Characteristic: B, C or D
  • RCD type: AC, A or B
  • Tripping current: 10, 30, 100 or 300 mA
  • Connection variants: 1P+N, 3P+N
  • Has a "Test" button — yes
  • Has an outgoing cable — yes

💡 Tip: an RCBO is handy when you need individual leakage protection on a specific circuit (e.g. a washing machine, a water heater). It takes less space than an "MCB + RCD" pair, but costs more.

AFDD — Arc-Fault Detection Device

Detects and disconnects dangerous electrical arcs in the wiring that can cause a fire.

  • Default rating: 16 A
  • Modules: 2
  • Connection variants: 1P, 1P+N
  • Compact 1P+N: 1 module (Hager ARM920U, Schneider iCV40H)
  • Has an outgoing cable — yes

SPD — Surge Protective Device

Protects against transient overvoltages (lightning, switching surges in the network).

  • Rating: 0 A (has no operating-current rating)
  • Modules: 2
  • SPD class: I, II or III (II by default)
  • Discharge current: set in kA (20 kA by default)
  • Connection variants: 1P+N, 3P+N

N behaviour (shunt). An SPD has a varistor shunt to earth — physically one N contact, and it does not pass operating current to the output. The children of an SPD always take the neutral from the N bar (not directly from the SPD). So the SPD panel has no "Direct / Bar" toggle — there is no choice. The "group N bar" field is disabled for an SPD: it cannot own a bar.

PE terminal. On the output side the SPD renders a separate green PE terminal — to the right of the active poles (1P+N → terminal at position 3, 3P+N → at position 5). The N terminal (blue) stays only on the input; the output has PE only. This removes the visual overlap of the PE conductor with the N conductor.

Fuse

A fuse — a single-use protective element against short circuit and overload.

  • Default rating: 16 A
  • Modules: 1
  • Fuse-link type: gG (general purpose), aM (motor protection) or gR (semiconductor protection)
  • Connection variants: 1P, 2P, 3P
  • Has an outgoing cable — yes

Switching

Devices for switching electrical circuits on/off and transferring between them.

Isolator (QS)

A switch-disconnector for manual switching on/off. Usually used as the incoming device at the start of a panel.

  • Default rating: 63 A
  • Modules: 3
  • Connection variants: 1P, 1P+N, 2P, 3P, 4P
  • Compact 1P+N: 1 module (ETI SV-440)
  • Can be a parent — yes
  • Can be a child — yes; usually the incoming device, but it can also sit downstream as a section isolator

Contactor (KM)

An electromagnetic switch for remote control of high-power loads (lighting, heating, ventilation).

  • Default rating: 40 A
  • Modules: 2P → 2M, 3P → 3M, 4P → 3M
  • Contact configuration: NO (normally open), NC (normally closed), NO+NC
  • Connection variants: 2P, 3P, 4P
  • Control circuit: the contactor has A1/A2 terminals (the coil). A contactor control switch or time relay connects to A1; A2 is joined to the N bar. Control-circuit wires are drawn as a dashed line
  • Can be both a parent and a child

Contactor control switch (SW)

A module for manual control of a contactor. Connects to the A1/A2 terminals of the contactor coil.

  • Modules: 1
  • Connection: 1P
  • Switch type: manual or auto
  • "Control" section: in the properties panel you choose the contactor this switch controls
  • Control is also supported by: time relay, voltage relay, multi-function relay, smart controller

ATS — Automatic Transfer Switch

An automatic switch between the main and reserve power source.

  • Default rating: 63 A
  • Modules: 4
  • Number of sources: 2 (main + reserve)
  • Connection variants: 2P, 4P
  • Modes:
    • Automatic (ATS) — switches to reserve when the main supply fails. The switching time is set in seconds (5 s by default)
    • Manual (1-0-2) — a switch with three positions

Input cables for the ATS / changeover switch 1-0-2: two separate cable fields are provided — main and reserve (from a generator or UPS). Both appear in the "Input cables" section of the properties panel and in the BOM. Validation checks each cable independently per IEC 60947-6-1.

4P N bar of the ATS / changeover switch 1-0-2: when a 4P ATS or changeover switch 1-0-2 is connected, the system automatically creates a separate N bar — the same as for an RCD. This meets the requirements of IEC 60947-3 for TN-C-S systems, where the neutral must be switched together with the phases. Bar label: "N (ATS)".

Changeover switch 1-0-2 (QC)

A manual switch between two power sources. Like an ATS but without automatic voltage monitoring. Three positions: source 1 — off — source 2. The variant model per IEC 60947-3 matches real products (Hager SFT, ABB OTM, Socomec SIRCO).

  • Default rating: 40 A (Hager SFT440)
  • Modules: 1P → 1M (SFT140), 2P → 2M (SFT240), 3P → 3M, 4P → 4M (SFT440)
  • Connection variants: 1P, 2P, 3P, 4P
  • N switching:
    • 1P — a single phase without neutral (a cottage with a generator)
    • 2P — L+N (a single-phase panel with an inverter/generator, SFT240-style). In a domestic scheme the switch output is always L+N regardless of the inverter type on the reserve input
    • 3P — 3L without neutral (TN-C, a 4-wire network)
    • 4P — 3L + N, the neutral is switched together with the phases (TN-C-S / TN-S / TT — mandatory for TT/IT per IEC 60364-4-41)
  • Number of sources: 2 (main + reserve — the same as an ATS)
  • Can be both a parent and a child

Phase selector (FK)

Lets you pick one of three phases to supply single-phase loads. Three-phase input (L1+L2+L3), single-phase output (the selected phase).

  • Default rating: 32 A
  • Modules: 3
  • Connection variants: 3P (only)
  • "Output phase" parameter: L1, L2 or L3 — determines which phase the child devices receive
  • Cascade update: when the output phase changes, all child devices automatically move to the new phase
  • Can be both a parent and a child
  • SVG: 3 input terminals at the top, 1 output terminal at the bottom centre
  • Use case: balancing the load across phases — each phase selector routes out one specific phase

Monitoring

Devices for monitoring the parameters of the electrical network.

Voltage relay (RV)

Disconnects the load when the voltage goes outside the permissible limits (too high or too low).

  • Default rating: 63 A
  • Modules: 2
  • Parameters: minimum voltage (170 V), maximum (270 V), reconnect delay (5 s)
  • Display: built-in (by default)
  • Connection: 1P+N, 3P+N
  • Compact 1P+N: 1 module (Novatek RN-118)

Time relay (RT)

A timer for automatic control of loads on a schedule.

  • Default rating: 16 A
  • Modules: 2
  • Mode: cyclic, delay or astronomical
  • Number of channels: 1 and more
  • Connection: 1P, 2P

Current relay (RI)

Monitors the current in a circuit and disconnects it when a set threshold is exceeded.

  • Default rating: 63 A
  • Modules: 2
  • Current range: set in A
  • Connection: 1P

Phase-sequence relay (RPF)

Monitors the presence, order and symmetry of the phases in a three-phase network.

  • Modules: 2
  • Monitoring type: sequence, phase loss or asymmetry
  • Connection: 3P, 4P

Multi-function relay (RMF)

A combined monitoring and protection device: voltage monitoring, current limiting and a timer in one module. Replaces a separate voltage relay + time relay.

  • Default rating: 63 A
  • Modules: 3
  • Connection: 1P+N, 3P+N
  • Can be a parent — yes
  • Contactor control — yes ("Control" section)

Metering

Energy meter (kWh)

An electricity meter for consumption metering.

  • Modules: 4
  • Type: single-phase or three-phase
  • Interface: none, RS485 or Modbus
  • Connection: 1P+N, 3P+N

Indicator (IND)

An indicator lamp or LED for visual indication of the presence of voltage. The three-phase version (Schneider iIL) shows the presence of each phase separately.

  • Modules: 1P → 1M, 3P → 1M (one module for three phases)
  • Connection: 1P, 3P

Power supply

LED power supply

A voltage converter for LED lighting.

  • Modules: 3
  • Output voltage: 12, 24 or 48 V
  • Output power: set in W (60 W by default)
  • Connection: 1P+N
  • Compact 1P+N: 1 module (Mean Well HDR-15)

DC power supply

A converter for supplying DC devices (controllers, automation).

  • Modules: 2
  • Output voltage: set in V (24 V by default)
  • Output current: set in A (10 A by default)
  • Connection: 1P+N

Distribution block (cross-module) (KM)

Branches the supply from a single input to several outgoing circuits. Each bar is an isolated conductor. Installed after the incoming breaker to distribute the phases.

  • Modules: 4
  • Rated current: the maximum continuous current through one bar (100 A by default)
  • Outputs per pole: 5, 7, 11, 12, 15 or 16 — determines how many circuits can be connected
  • Max input conductor: 10, 16, 25 or 35 mm²
  • Max output conductor: 2.5, 4, 6 or 10 mm²
  • Connection: 1P, 1P+N, 2P, 4P
  • Can be a parent — yes (connected circuits become children)
  • Can be a child — yes (connects to the incoming device)
  • Validation: checks the maximum number of connections per pole and phase compatibility

Infrastructure

Schuko socket (XS) — DIN-rail

A Schuko socket (Type F) on the DIN rail — a typical use case in a boiler room, a service corridor, a garage or a server room. Lets you plug appliances in directly at the panel without running a separate circuit.

  • Rated current: 16 A (typical domestic) — 10 A (low-power) and 20 A (high-power loads) are also available
  • Modules: 2 (standard) — a 1-module compact variant (ABB N2071, Hager SK62, Schneider Resi9)
  • Connection: 1P+N (line + neutral + PE from the Schuko side clips)
  • Has earthing: yes — Schuko has a PE contact (the side clips) and requires a connected PE
  • Can be a child — yes (connects to a breaker or an RCBO)
  • Cannot be a parent — it is a final load
  • SVG: a realistic DIN-rail socket visual with a face plate, pin holes and earthing clips

⚠️ Protection: like any load, a socket must be protected by a breaker (typically 16 A, characteristic C) + preferably an RCBO, or downstream of an RCD, for leakage protection (IEC 60364-7-701 — mandatory for wet locations).

Terminal block (XT)

An element for joining conductors. Has no electrical parameters.

  • Modules: 1
  • Connection: 1P

Smart-home controller (SC)

A modular controller for smart-home systems.

  • Modules: 2
  • Protocol: Wi-Fi, Zigbee or Z-Wave
  • Number of channels: 8 and more
  • Connection: 1P+N
  • Compact 1P+N: 1 module (Shelly Pro 1PM)

Dimmer (DIM)

A brightness controller for lighting.

  • Modules: 2
  • Maximum power: set in W (400 W by default)
  • Type: Leading edge, Trailing edge or Universal
  • Connection: 1P, 1P+N
  • Compact 1P: 1 module (Shelly Pro Dimmer 1PM)
  • Has an outgoing cable — yes

Bell (BEL)

A bell or siren for signalling.

  • Modules: 1
  • Connection: 1P

Blank plate

A blank filler for unused positions on the DIN rail. A purely organisational element — it has no electrical connections, poles or wiring.

Custom

Custom component

If the device you need is not in the list — create a custom one. You can set your own type name and an icon (emoji).

  • Modules: 1 (can be changed)
  • Type name: free text
  • Icon: any emoji
  • Connection: 1P, 1P+N, 2P, 3P, 3P+N, 4P — all variants available
  • Compact 1P / 1P+N: 1 module

Connection variants (poles)

Each device supports one or more connection variants:

The connection variant determines how many modules the device occupies on the rail and which conductors are drawn on the schematic.


Skin themes (colours)

Each device type has its own colour for easy visual distinction on the schematic. There are 19 colour themes in total. For example:

  • MCB — blue
  • RCD — violet
  • RCBO — indigo
  • Isolator — slate
  • SPD — amber
  • Contactor — orange

Room zone

Each device can be assigned a room zone — this indicates which room the circuit belongs to. The field is in the properties panel, in the "Advanced" section (a dropdown).

The chosen zone is shown as an icon (emoji) on the breaker's SVG right on the panel schematic — this lets you quickly identify the purpose of each circuit visually.

Zones are used for validation: for example, devices in wet zones (bathroom, laundry) are automatically checked for an RCD with IΔn ≤ 30 mA (IEC 60364-7-701).
